Haiku R1/Alpha 1 Released
The Haiku Project has announced the availability of Haiku R1/Alpha 1, the first official development release of the Haiku Operating System. According to the press release (80KB PDF), the purpose of this release is to make a stable development snapshot of Haiku available to a wider audience for more extensive testing and debugging. This release comes approximately eight years after the project was kicked off under the OpenBeOS banner, in August of 2001.
This first release is expected to be followed by a few more development milestones on the road to the long-awaited final release of R1. These subsequent official milestones will be announced as the release dates are defined by the development team.
The Haiku team requests that bugs found in Alpha 1 be reported to the project's bug tracking system located at http://dev.haiku-os.org.
ISO, raw and VMWare images of Haiku R1/Alpha 1 can be downloaded from http://haiku-os.org/get-haiku. An official Haiku CD will be available for purchase from the Haiku Store starting from the end of September.
